Dream, Imagine and Explore.

When I was young I would read books and image that I was wherever the book would take me. The more interesting the place the more interesting the book. I would find myself in the middle of the ocean, in logging camps, on a dessert trail or in the majestic mountains. As a child I never expected to go to foreign lands. We didn’t have a lot of money, but we did go to the mountains, oceans, small towns and large cities. I was always wondering what it would be like to go explore the world.

It is estimated that most adults will move 11 times in their lifetime and according to the New York times they will live an average of 18 miles away from their mom. Well, I can tell you that I lived in the same place until I was 25 years old. When I moved away I couldn’t wait to get out of my small town and see a little bit more of the world. I moved to what I considered to be a big city, but there are many that are far larger than where I lived. I loved the big city. The entertainment, the stores, the hustle and bustle of all the people. I loved to watch all the coming and goings of city life. Being a county girl this was a completely new experience. A new and exciting adventure.

I watched a movie years later that got me thinking about all the things I wanted to do, so I stated to make a list, (you’ve probably guessed the movie, “The Bucket list” with Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman.) My list has changed over the years but there are a few thing that have remained the same. I want to step foot in every state in the United States, ride in a hot air balloon, and I want to see the Grand Canyon. I’ve got a lot more states to go, but I’m working on it. My upcoming trip has me visiting 5 new states. I will not be in some of those states for long but I will be there. I’ve planned the hot air balloon but when I got there Mother Nature had other plans. I will plan for another time. And the other item on my list is the Grand Canyon and that is the main place that I will be going on my upcoming Adventure with my girls.

When I make list, things to do, places to go, people to meet, do I make plans to follow through with it? Well, this year is the year! I will be knocking off a few items off my bucket list. I’m working on adding a few more for the following year with my husband. He has been such a dear as I have made plans to go and explore. He has been so understanding my desire to go and see and explore.

I can’t remember where I read it ( who knows maybe I just imagined it) but children learn better when they are exploring their environment. I don’t think it’s just children. I think when we continue to explore we continue to learn. I am excited to see things and places that I have never seen before. With that excitement comes joy, and the joy is part of the happiness. So make yourself a bucket list. Go ahead, dream, imagine and explore.
